Dance with the Divine: An Embodied Faith Retreat
Dance with the Divine:
An Embodied Faith Retreat
Sometimes in the Christian tradition we overlook our bodies. Our education revolves around our mind or our this thing we call a soul. Sometimes we even approach our bodies and flesh as things to be overcome rather than celebrated as integral to our experience of faith. Yet, Christians confess faith in an Incarnated Christ, the Word made Flesh—as such, our embodied experience must matter! Bodies are central to our human flourishing.
Weaving together her experience as a dancer, Dance Movement Therapy, neuroscience, theology, and transformative learning theories, Spiritual Director Annalise Hume will lead on us a retreat as we seek teaching us wholistic and embodied spiritual practices. Together we move, pray, and play. No previous dance, yoga, or movement experience necessary. While the sessions are movement based, our brain-body connection is so strong that you are welcome to do the entire class in your imagination without any macro movements, which means your physical mobility is not a factor. All you need is a willingness to explore and courage to invite your whole self into the process.
Communal Celebration: Share in the joy of community as you dance alongside fellow participants. Exchange stories, support one another, and celebrate the divine connection in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Spiritual Deepening: Explore themes of divine love and grace through the physical expression of dance. Delve into new aspects of your spiritual journey, discovering how movement can be a form of worship and connection.
Join us for an event filled with movement, connection, and spiritual enrichment. This is more than just a gathering—it's a sacred dance with the divine.
After seminary, I felt a deep pull toward training as a spiritual director and completed a two-year Spiritual Direction training program with Oasis Ministries under Glenn Mitchell. Now I teach, facilitate movement workshops, and offer Spiritual Direction with the hope of helping individuals and groups take steps toward wholeness and flourishing. In my spare time you will find me walking around outside barefoot, dancing in the kitchen with my son, watching tennis matches, going to the theater, dreaming up my next trip, and playing with my whoodle puppy (okay, he’s seven but still acts like a 40 lb. puppy)

Better Living Through Charitable Giving
Did you know that with proper planning, giving to your church can benefit your family AND your community? This session will explore charitable gift opportunities that may help to increase your income, minimize taxes, and maximize your charitable impact. Giving techniques will be shared as options but no solicitations will be made – this is not a fundraiser.
This session will be led by Kyle Karioka. Kyle is the Senior Director of Gift Planning for The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division. He serves the mission of The Salvation Army by helping donors use their assets to make their desired impact in the community. These gifts may benefit donors by increasing income and reducing taxes while helping neighbors in need in through The Salvation Army. He also provides mentorship and coaching to a team of five other Directors of Gift Planning on the West Coast.
Kyle has fourteen years of fund development experience, previously serving as the primary local fundraiser for Special Olympics Hawaii. He is a past President of the Hawaii Gift Planning Council. He was born and raised in Wahiawa and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He holds a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designation from The American College of Financial Services and is a Fellow of Charitable Estate Planning (FCEP) from The Charitable Estate Planning Institute.
Estate Planning For The Soul
Do we truly own our possessions or are we simply stewards of what God has made? How can we leave a meaningful legacy by passing on more than just wealth? Can we leave an inheritance that provides for our family AND all of God’s children?
Your will is your final act of love, one that will live long after your last breath. This interactive session will explore these questions and consider if our estate plans truly line up with the Lord’s call for our lives.

Let’s Talk About Dying
It’s Lent, and we’re thinking about what it means to come face to face with our own dust, our own humanity. Together we’ll have the opportunity to learn and talk with each other about critical issues every human must confront. Register to join us by calling the church office, clicking on the website link, or signing up with a volunteer in Aloha Hour on Sundays. Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you need childcare, please let us know and we will work to accommodate your needs. Spiritual, medical, legal, financial issues we need to think about but often avoid will be part of our conversations over these four weeks. In addition to opportunities to learn, we’ll have access to resources like legal documents, advanced care planning forms, the services of a notary, resources for writing and executing final wishes and a last will and testament, along with much more.
