Dance with the Divine:
An Embodied Faith Retreat
Sometimes in the Christian tradition we overlook our bodies. Our education revolves around our mind or our this thing we call a soul. Sometimes we even approach our bodies and flesh as things to be overcome rather than celebrated as integral to our experience of faith. Yet, Christians confess faith in an Incarnated Christ, the Word made Flesh—as such, our embodied experience must matter! Bodies are central to our human flourishing.
Weaving together her experience as a dancer, Dance Movement Therapy, neuroscience, theology, and transformative learning theories, Spiritual Director Annalise Hume will lead on us a retreat as we seek teaching us wholistic and embodied spiritual practices. Together we move, pray, and play. No previous dance, yoga, or movement experience necessary. While the sessions are movement based, our brain-body connection is so strong that you are welcome to do the entire class in your imagination without any macro movements, which means your physical mobility is not a factor. All you need is a willingness to explore and courage to invite your whole self into the process.
Communal Celebration: Share in the joy of community as you dance alongside fellow participants. Exchange stories, support one another, and celebrate the divine connection in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Spiritual Deepening: Explore themes of divine love and grace through the physical expression of dance. Delve into new aspects of your spiritual journey, discovering how movement can be a form of worship and connection.
Join us for an event filled with movement, connection, and spiritual enrichment. This is more than just a gathering—it's a sacred dance with the divine.
After seminary, I felt a deep pull toward training as a spiritual director and completed a two-year Spiritual Direction training program with Oasis Ministries under Glenn Mitchell. Now I teach, facilitate movement workshops, and offer Spiritual Direction with the hope of helping individuals and groups take steps toward wholeness and flourishing. In my spare time you will find me walking around outside barefoot, dancing in the kitchen with my son, watching tennis matches, going to the theater, dreaming up my next trip, and playing with my whoodle puppy (okay, he’s seven but still acts like a 40 lb. puppy)
