Welcome to Community Church of Honolulu

Our Mission

Welcome to the online home of Community Church of Honolulu! We are working hard to build a community of justice and grace grounded in the teachings of Jesus.

Here at CCH you will be welcomed by a congregation of people from all walks of life, babies to members in their 90s, newcomers and founding members of the church, people who feel pretty certain about their faith and a lot of us who bring our questions with us every single week. We stick together because we believe that communities of committed people can change the world to be more just, more loving, more grace-filled, and we want to be part of making that happen.

You’ll hear a welcome in worship that includes the phrase, “Wherever you are on your journey of life, you are welcome here.” And we mean that–no exceptions. We hope to welcome you in person or online soon!

  • What's Your Story?

In Christian traditions, “testimony” often refers to telling a story, a personal account of a spiritual journey that weaves in and out of faith, that is informed by life’s journey, and that becomes a witness to the justice and grace of the message of Jesus Christ.

  • July at CCH: The Church Has Left the Building!

The month of July at CCH will be themed “The Church Has Left the Building.” In July, our worship rhythm will change as we take our life as a community of faith outside the walls of our church building. Please join us on Sundays as we share in these experiences together. On July 13, 20, and 27, please meet at the church sanctuary for ten minutes of worship at 9:00 am!

  • June 2025

The June 2025 Watchman celebrates the formal calling of Rev. Dr. Amy Butler as CCH’s settled pastor and prepares for her installation in October. July’s theme, “The Church Has Left the Building,” will feature off-campus volunteer work and on-campus service projects that embody faith in action. Highlights from May included festive Aloha Hour gatherings, a successful bonsai show, and the introduction of the Prayground—a child-friendly worship space. The church also continues its Open and Affirming journey, deepening support for the LGBTQIA+ community through storytelling and inclusive conversations.

Rev. Dr. Amy Butler, Senior Minister

Welcome to CCH! My name is Amy Butler and I have had the the great honor of serving the congregation at Community Church as Designated Pastor. July 1, 2025 we begin a new journey together as congregation and Settled Senior Minister. Whenever I look at a church website, I want to know what motivates the leaders, so here’s a little background about me.

I am a person of faith who has always been fascinated by this question: “What does it take to build a community that can change the world?” CCH is gifted to be living that grand experiment in our island home, a culture in which the values of Hawai’i infuse who we are: Aloha (love, respect) Lōkahi (harmony, unity) Mālama (to care for, to honor) Pono (goodness, morality) Po‘okela (greatest, to excel).

I grew up in Hawai’i and these values inform my work. My Christian faith has provided a professional framework for exploring the possibility and promise of that question. Since 2000 I’ve had the great honor of serving and loving four faith communities in various pastoral roles: St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans; Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, DC; and The Riverside Church in the City of New York.; National City Christian Church in Washington, DC. You can find out more about my background here.

To now be back in these beautiful islands with the lovely, lovely congregation at Community Church of Honolulu is a gift beyond words. Here I have found a community of people who welcome questions; who tenaciously build community; who value legacy while welcoming change; who are willing to take a chance on each other. We all know that being human is hard. Living in relationship is hard. Being the church is often really challenging. And, love wins in the end.

If you are looking for a community in which you will be welcomed unconditionally, loved lavishly, and challenged in ways that deepen your connection to God and to the people around you, I hope you’ll visit Community Church of Honolulu. And if you’d like to connect with me personally, please send me an email and let’s chat!

Me ke aloha and welcome!
